New Page and Other Things

Yes, there’s a new antique shop in Old Town Cottonwood!! And I haven’t even mentioned all of the old ones, but will soon.  It’s called “A Checkered Past Antiques” – what a great name!! I found many things to buy and the prices are great.

So, my new page is all about places to shop and eat in the Verde Valley.

Bras for a Cause #3

you need a sweater with this one!

Brrrra

Here is my third and final bra for this year (here’s hoping they do it again next year as it was great fun and I still have lots of ideas…). This one took a very long time – lots of beads, tough fabric, icicles…

All of my Bras for a Cause are for sale at Quilters Quarters through the end of the exhibit. I’m asking that a check for $100.00 be written to Susan G Komen for the Cure, given to the staff at QQ and you get a bra of mine. That sounds so gross – all of these started out brand new before I started the embellishment process.

My mom had breast cancer several years ago. She is still going strong at 82 (and looking fabulous!). Many friends of mine have had the disease and a couple have died. Hope we can find a cure.

At Quilter’s Quarters

See this page for pieces of mine that are being exhibited now through November 28 at Quilter’s Quarters.

My Collage on Display

what did they do that was so bad?!

In the Doghouse

Some of the pieces that were in my show, Be it Ever So Humble…, are now at Quilters Quarters in Cottonwood, Arizona. I will be there on November 19 from 1:00 – 3:00 to answer any questions you may have. So, you can see my work, view the Bras for a Cause exhibit, buy fabulous fabric and sign up for a class!! So many things to do in one place.

Amelia Earhart

I went to see Amelia this weekend, starring Hillary Swank and Richard Gere and directed by Mira Nair. It was a two-hour movie, but didn’t seem like it. They told the story in a very interesting way and it’s one of those times where even when you know how it ends, you keep hoping it will turn out differently. Great acting and the clothes in the film were so beautiful – I love the clothing from the 1920’s and 1930’s. Amelia Earhart was an amazing woman.

If Dorothy Had Stayed In Kansas - can be purchased at Vision Gallery

I also took some of my collages to Vision Gallery in Chandler, Arizona. They are such nice people there and downtown Chandler is very cool. My sister and I took our mom to a great Mexican restaurant there last January and we ate outside. How beautiful is that?

How about a tune? Marion Harris, one of my favorite singers, recorded this in 1934. It’s kicky.

Old Town Cottonwood

Old Town is a very cute area of Cottonwood, Arizona, and has been improving since we moved here 13 years ago – fun shops and great restaurants. It’s also fairly close to my job so Mary Ellen, Katie and I had lunch today at Crema. I had a veggie wrap and gelato. The bee’s knees! We talked about what we’ve been doing, and then disease and death. Katie reads the obituary pages all the time. She’s not even as old as I am!  We’re not exactly the Sex & the City women. (I feel elderly)

pre-Andrew sistersHere’s a tune from the Boswell Sisters (which makes me feel young even though it was recorded in 1931). Fantastic!!

Chest of Drawers

Here is my second bra, Chest of Drawers. Many tiny men’s underwear. I’m taking it to Quilter’s Quarters later today. The exhibit officially starts today, but I’ll be making a couple more entries. See box at right for more information on Bras for a Cause.

yum, tastes like chicken

Zombie and Lefty

Halloween night was fun at our house. We only had 23 trick-or-treaters – they were all small – so I had to eat our cat.
